Sebastian Haller received a hero's welcome back at Borussia Dortmund after he emerged as the difference-maker in the AFCON final for Ivory Coast.

The striker assumed the status of a national hero after he powered Ivory Coast to their third AFCON title by scoring against Victor Osimhen's Nigeria just nine minutes from regulation time. The celebrations continued in Germany as Haller was given a rousing reception by Dortmund team-mates and staff upon his return to training on Thursday morning after conquering Africa.

Dortmund players were spotted singing chants and waiting for Haller at the entrance to their training ground in Brackel. As soon as the striker opened the door and stepped into the complex he was greeted with confetti showers with former Liverpool player Emre Can leading the celebrations.

After a successful campaign with Ivory Coast in the continental tournament, Haller will look to replicate his goalscoring form with his club in the Bundesliga and Europe. He is slated to return to domestic action against Wolfsburg in a league encounter on Saturday which will be followed by a trip to the Netherlands to face PSV in the Champions League on February 20.
