Van de Beek barely played at UnitedDutchman set for loan moveFrankfurt have €15m buy optionWHAT HAPPENED?

The midfielder swapped Ajax for United for £35 million ($46m) in 2020 but he has played just 62 times for the club since then and just 23 of those have been starts. While knee issues have limited his minutes as well, the Dutch international, who had a loan stint at Everton in the second half of the 2021-22 season, has barely played this term but he may get the chance to play more frequently in 2024. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 26-year-old will join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the season and there is a buy option for €15m (£13m) – but it is not mandatory.

Van de Beek has proven to be something of a flop at United. He, arguably, typifies the problems the Red Devils have had in recent years when it comes to recruitment. It would be best for all parties to part ways so the Dutchman can get regular game time again.

DID YOU KNOW?

Van de Beek's contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025, hence why the fee is quite a bit below the price United paid for him in 2020. Romano adds that Frankfurt will pay the Red Devils a loan fee but German publication states the purchase option is just under €10m (£8.5m).
