Erik ten Hag has revealed that Manchester United have held contract discussions with Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial.

Both players are out of contract with United this summer, meaning they are now free to negotiate with foreign clubs and can depart the club for free in June. United had initially communicated that Varane was under contract until 2025 when he signed for the club from Real Madrid but it has since emerged that the defender's deal expires in June. The club have the opportunity to trigger a one-year extension deal for both players, as they have done with Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal Mejbri.

"We are talking with Rapha Varane and Anthony Martial and we have triggered the options on Lindelof, Hannibal and Wan-Bissaka," Ten Hag told a press conference on Thursday. Asked to clarify, the Dutchman added "that is an internal discussion between the club and the player".

Ten Hag refused to comment on the club's discussions with Borussia Dortmund over a potential move for Jadon Sancho but he revealed that Andre Onana is available for selection for Monday's FA Cup third round tie at Wigan Athletic following discussions with Cameroon. Onana has been picked in the Cameroon squad for the African Nations Cup but there is still a chance that he plays for United against Tottenham on January 14, the day before his country kick off their campaign against Guinea.
