Bernardo inspired by thought of double treble'Want to build a legacy'Madrid are 'Kings of the competition'WHAT HAPPENED?

Last year City became only the second English team after Manchester United to win the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League, and remain in contention to win the three competitions again this season. No other side in the history of European football have pulled off the feat in consecutive seasons.

"Of course, inspiration and motivation. We know how well this team has done and we want to create that legacy and to win another Premier League to do six in seven years and four in a row," Bernardo told a press conference. "And we want to win the Champions League to do two in a row that only Madrid did three in a row but no one else won consecutive Champions Leagues and if we win two trebles in a row that would be a legacy. But it's so difficult because in one week we could be out of all the competitions but we are fighting for it."

Real Madrid are standing in their way of a place in the semi-finals of Europe's top competition and Wednesday's second leg is on a knife edge after last week's enthralling 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu. "We have the maximum respect for Real Madrid for everything they have achieved in this competition and in their history," Bernardo added. "We know it is a very dangerous team because they play very different to us, sometimes you feel you are in control and then they get in behind and score goals so it is very difficult to control Real Madrid. You have the feeling you have the game under control but you never do."

City are hopeful that Kyle Walker will return after missing the first leg of the quarter-final through injury. Walker has returned to training and gave dominant performances against Madrid in both legs of last season's semi-final tie, which City won 5-1 on aggregate. "It is really important because we know Kyle is a player that has controlled some of the best players in the world that play out wide. He always does phenomenal work when he plays," Bernardo said. "He is our captain and in last years played against players like Vinicius [Junior], Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe and he knows how to defend them like nobody."
